This item is made of the finest materials, and will last a long time if properly cared for and maintained. Here are some maintenance tips:
d Place your furniture in a shady spot. With less direct sunlight, the rope and varnish will last longer.
d During winter months or during long stretches of non-use, store the furniture in a dry place away from mice and bugs.
d Cumaru will hold varnish just fine, but the South American hardwood is so naturally tough, and when left unfinished, ages to a silver-gray color. This wood has been treated only with a mild conditioning oil. It is normally recommended to allow 24 hours for drying after refinishing, but cumaru is remarkable in part for being so hard and nonabsorbent, so it may take a while longer for the varnish to completely set. Just be careful to remove the rope before refinishing the wood.
d To clean the rope, soak the rope (not the wood) in water with OxiClean or a mild detergent, like Wisk, in it. Follow the instructions on the cleaner container for amounts. Let the rope soak in the soapy solution for about an hour. To begin cleaning, take a handful of rope in each hand and rub the pieces together. Use a soft-bristled scrub brush to work on any stains. Once you have cleaned all of the rope in this way, rinse using a garden hose. Lastly, let the rope air-dry on a flat surface so that it does not stretch while drying.
