close and convenient, but not\u00a0so close that you&#8217;ll be inviting unexpected &#8220;guests&#8221; into your home.\u00a0 Never spray your firewood with pesticides to deter insects because burning\u00a0these logs in the fireplace will create harmful\u00a0toxic vapors.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep it protected<\/strong>.\u00a0 In order to burn efficiently, firewood needs to stay dry.\u00a0 One option is to store your firewood inside your shed or in\u00a0another covered outdoor structure.\u00a0 Or, you could do what I do and cover the wood pile with a simple tarp.\u00a0 They are inexpensive and can be tied down to prevent them from blowing away.\u00a0 If your firewood is stored in a place\u00a0on your property\u00a0that is not visible to passersby, then covering it with a tarp will not damage your home&#8217;s &#8220;curb appeal.&#8221;<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-970\" title=\"Log-Rack\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.backyardcity.com\/Outdoor-Patio-Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/log-rack1.jpg?resize=171%2C189&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Log Rack\" width=\"171\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.backyardcity.com\/Outdoor-Patio-Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/log-rack1.jpg?w=544&amp;ssl=1 544w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.backyardcity.com\/Outdoor-Patio-Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/log-rack1.jpg?resize=272%2C300&amp;ssl=1 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 171px) 100vw, 171px\" \/><\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep it elevated<\/strong>.\u00a0 If stored directly on the ground, firewood can soak up moisture and attract pests.\u00a0 Storing your firewood in a sturdy <a title=\"Log Racks\" href=\"http:\/\/www.backyardcity.com\/outdoor-fireplaces\/Outdoor-Log-Racks.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Firewood Rack<\/a>, or Log Rack, will keep your logs elevated, promoting air circulation and deterring pesky pests and wood rot.\u00a0 Log Racks come in multiple sizes, so you should be able to find one that fits the space in which you plan to store your logs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Properly storing your firewood now will ensure that you have enough good firewood to last you through the whole winter.\u00a0 So, get ready to\u00a0cozy up next to the fireplace with a warm buddy, and don&#8217;t forget the hot chocolate &#8212;
